Enterprise Resource Planning is software that empowers business management in an organization. The ERP software has the benefit of integrating the different operations of a company which means seamlessly navigating in to the various departments and functions such as planning, research and development, manufacturing, marketing, logistics, finance and other operations crucial to successfully running a business.

ERP comes in many modules to suit the specific needs of a company, irrespective of its size whether a small, medium or large industry. The software modules addresses such needs with focus on individual areas of operations like purchase or inventory control, etc. and can be upgraded and used as add on.

The main objective of ERP is to provide a centralized and unified repository for all details that can be shared by all departments for quick and smooth operations in the company. The unification of all the information onto a single system individually serves the particular needs of the different departments. With the advent of ERP standalone computer systems in the various departments like manufacturing, finance, warehouse, etc have become obsolete. ERP also provides the advantage for someone in a particular department like finance to check out if an order has been executed and so on. The link in the software makes it an easy task.

ERP also has other advantages and you also have the option to install specific modules without going in for the whole package in one shot. You can go in for additional installations for another time in the future based on your needs of business processes.

There are many reasons for companies going in for ERP and a few major reasons are the company statistics and financial standing which means the management can immediately access the overall performance of the company in terms of business done and revenues generated without going to either the finance department or the marketing department who could possibly be having their own financial figures.

ERP is also for tracking a customer order right from day one when the order comes in to the date of delivery. The whole process can be tracked with clarity. ERP comes with standardizing the different processes and accelerating manufacturing and automating functions, improving productivity and sticking to time schedules and also cost cutting.

The other area where ERP helps is to keep check and reduce inventory, plan just in time purchase of raw material and delivery of finished goods to customers. It helps with work in process and reduces overheads avoiding idle stocks within the stores. It also gives benefits to plan the supply chain process and logistics to meet customer demands on time and adhere to delivery schedules.

ERP helps to communicate with multiple business organizations and keep track on its employees turnout and services and the work log, alongside with benefits and bonuses.

A lot of innovation has gone into the ERP software system of late as more business houses are on the web to conduct their burgeoning business and the ERP software has more advantages over the traditional delivery models without expenses on extra hardware, additional training costs or employing more people.
