The greatest environmental threat "global warming" is hanging above our heads just like the sword of Damocles. Though many debates were conducted and still undergoing, we are not able to find a proper solution to deal with this phenomenon. While discussions and researches are going on one side, that thick layer of atmosphere that surrounds the earth is becoming thinner day by day and this arises great concern in the coming days. Though the earth has experienced climatic changes in the past, the current scenario is that it is getting warm more rapidly than it took place earlier making life on the earth an unfavorable experience.

Our atmosphere includes a lion share of nitrogen, 21% of oxygen and 1% of other gases like carbon dioxide, methane etc. As life on the earth depends on the energy coming from the sun, a portion of the sunlight falling on the earth will be prevented by greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane etc. from going back into the space. The radiation, heat and energy trapped by the gases maintain the earth temperature and make it warmer to a life supporting average. But when the gases trap more radiations the more the earth gets warmer. Due to the greenhouse effect, the radiations get trapped above average levels hence earth has grown warmer and this phenomenon is called global warming.

Studies conducted across the world states that more than 90% of human activities contributed to drastic changes in the climatic conditions over the past 280 years. The primary cause of global warming is carbon dioxide emission. In that case, each and every person contribute towards this is in one way or another way. As each family will have at least one car, the gas emitted from it includes greenhouse gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. However, the major part of carbon dioxide is coming into the atmospheres from power plants, as they are using coal, natural gas and diesel fuels to for power generation. The data related to carbon dioxide emission is embarrassing and is estimated that nearly 8 billion tons of carbon dioxide has been going into the atmosphere last year. Though natural activities like volcanic eruptions and normal breathing may have produced a certain amount of carbon dioxide, manual production of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide has caused much of the observed increase in the earth's temperatures.

The after effects of global warming will be a complete disaster to the earthly creatures. In the Arctic region ice is melting in a faster way and if this continues that the region will become an ice-free zone by 2040. Even now, polar bears and certain creatures living there are facing danger related to this sea ice loss. And in deep sea regions, coral reefs are disappearing at an alarming rate and events like this can continue at a faster pace in the next 50 years as sea temperatures are rising at an alarming rate. Moreover, frequent wildfires, heat waves and tropical storms will also give more ferocious nature of the phenomenon in the coming years.

For protecting our house we can use alarm systems provided by companies like ADT Alarm System, but can alarm systems like this can protect us from phenomenon's like global warming's? I think we still have to do a lot of research on this to find a proper solution. But we can reduce the impact of climate variations by using machines and equipments that emit less harmful gases. For example, if we use less harmful or organic fuels in our vehicles, it will run burn less gas, so there will be less emission of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. Similarly, running power plants that will emit less pollutant gas can also help us to make our earth free from toxic gases. So a transition towards clean energy economy can surely bring good fortune to people and creatures living on the earth.
