This is actually an outline of the entire thesis. It is just like a mini thesis which is presented to the committee to give them an idea about your topic. By going through the outline the committee decides whether you are capable of carrying the field you have chosen.
Therefore, the topic should be of your interest and very enthusiastic so that the committee can not reject the proposal.
In the following section I will introduce to you the important constituents that make up the thesis outline:
Introduction:
You will have to clearly state the reason for the choice of subject, give explanation for your topic selection. This introduction chapter is basically meant for you to convince the committee that you have enough knowledge and investigative skills to write on this topic.
Research Question:
This will trim the concept of your topic in to just one question. This will discuss the issue you have taken up for discussion.
Literature Review:
Tin this section you will discuss the most important elements of the thesis question. What is your research about, what are you trying to prove from your argument, what would be your conclusions and recommendation these are the things that you will have to write about here. This is just a summary, a brief description, of the real literature review. This will tell the committee your approach to the topic. This is where you can really impress your professors and get their approval.
Methodology Section:
The method of investigation defines your tools and techniques that you will use for the research. You will describe in this section how exactly are you going to look for the detail. The committee will be curious to know from where you will get all the required information. There are two types of methodologies involved, namely, qualitative and quantitative. Your selection of the method and techniques will tell the committee whether you are appropriately equipped for the task or not.
Reference list:
This will enlist all the sources of information that you have collected to write dissertation proposal. The choice of research points in the list will convince the counselors that you have chosen the right topic and will approve of it.
The best way to accomplish this task is to make notes as you progress, this will make sure that you have not missed any important point or a source of data. The committee will also be convinced that you are capable of writing on this topic and that your approach to the idea is correct. They will make a report about your project in which they will guide you about your mistakes in the proposal.
