What Is a Frame Machine?

An Auto frame machines is used to repair damages caused to the inner frame of a vehicle due to collision. This is done to restore the body of the vehicle to its original shape. This damage occurs in almost all vehicles involved in accidents. Therefore, these machines are a common piece of equipment in all body shops. They do the work that humans do not have the strength for through the use of hydraulics, leverage and sheer torque.

Sizes:

These machines are usually 15 to 24 feet for standard vehicle bodies. Full size or larger trucks or SUVs need a larger frame that runs up to 24 feet. They can with two or three rotating (360 degrees) towers that allow one to apply stress to the vehicle frame, stretch or pull it to straighten it back to its original position.

Repair:

Frame repair is usually achieved by pushing or pulling a section depending on the damage and the type of frame. For example for the unibody frame, this is what most automobiles have; there is no way of getting to the other side of the damaged area to be able to push out a bent section, so pulling is required. The towers are able to do this by acting from outside the zone of the damage and pulling away from the area with increasing torque until the section is straightened..

These machines strap the vehicle’s frame into a static position so that repairs can be made. They have loading ramps so that the vehicle can be driven onto the platform of the machine where the vehicle is bolted down. Chains are attached to pull the frame and the hydraulics adjusts the tension. The more modern machines will include computerized measurement machines. It can put in the original dimensions for the frame and push or pull the frame until it reaches the dimensions and stop.
