John Sullivan, the first collector of Ooty constructed it in 1824. A Railway Line runs along one banks of the lake and the lake is set among groves of Eucalyptus trees. During the Month of May, on any two days boat races and boat pageantry take place at the lake.

Government Rose Garden

The Government Rose Garden in Ooty is the largest rose garden in India. This garden is locates on the slopes of the Elk Hill and has one of the largest collection of roses with over 20,000 varieties produced cultivated by more than 2,800 people. Some unique collections include Polyanthas, Floribunda, Papagena, Miniature Roses, Hybrid Tea Roses and some special collections in green and black.

Dodabetta Peak, Pykara, Mudumalai National Park, Emerald Lake, Upper Bhavani, Kamaraj Sagar Dam, Mukurthi National Park and Pine forest are some of the best attractions close to Ooty that are highly visited by tourists to Ooty.
