Understanding RCD Testing
Author: awtt1234 | Posted: 20.07.2012Most people are still unfamiliar with RCD testing. First of all, RCD stands for residual current devices and not many people know that this device simply saves our lives. Imagine a small electric appliance plugged onto an electric outlet. This device can be an accident waiting to happen since once you touch it, it can ground you and send fatal electric waves through your body. This is where RCD comes into play. These residual current devices are in charge of cutting the supply of electricity whenever an imbalance is detected, and in cases of equipment with electric ground, there is always an imbalance.
Electric shocks are always caused by faulty wiring or even leaks in the power circuit which is why RCD testers are so important to make sure that no one gets hurt.
Who can handle the RCD tester?
If you have the right knowledge when it comes to electric equipments, wires, and electricity then you can do the job yourself. However to make sure that your RCD is working properly, it always better to leave it to the professionals. You can seek help from service companies who will always be willing to do the job for you. Make sure to pick a trusted service company to make the most out of what you pay. If you find the latter option a bit expensive, as long as you have the right understanding with RCDs you can do it with the help of a tester.
Constantly check your RCD switches
Everyone has this. Having one is required by laws on safe working. In the event that you don’t have an RCD switch or if it fails to work and an accident occurs due to electrocution the owner of the establishment can be fined heavily and aside from that insurance does not cover this as well.
Regular Maintenance of your RCD
Constant testing and checking will ensure that your RCD will work during the time that it is needed the most. RCD protection is needed since this device is the only device that can save you or your family from hazardous accidents such as electrocution. We use electric appliances almost every day and in almost every aspect of our lives. This may sound like a convenience and advantages, but remember that we should also learn how to protect ourselves and avoid being negligent so that accidents can be prevented
