Udaipur, the capital of the former princely state of Mewar is a beautiful city in Rajasthan, India famous for its lakes and palaces. A current tourist favorite, especially for up-market Westerners, it was a backdrop for numerous movies. Udaipur is referred to as the "Venice of the East", the "Most Romantic City of India" and not without reason. Sightseeing in Udaipur is the major activity of the tourists in the city. The city nestles in it a host of wonderful palaces and forts which are considered to be some of the best piece of architecture in the country.

City Palace of Udaipur

The city palace in Udaipur is the most popular site of attraction which has some of the fantastic royal buildings of the city which is an amalgamation of Medieval and Chinese style. The grand structure in white marble and granite is marveled for its delicate architecture. It s the largest palace complex in the city of lakes and is one of the major attractions of Sightseeing in Udaipur. Encircled by battlemented fort walls the palace nestles within itself a few imposing piece of architecture, beautiful gardens and lively fountains

Garden of the Maidens (Sahelion ki Bari)

Maharana Sangram singh built this in the mid 18th century. The 'garden of the maidens' brings to mind the lifestyle of the ladies of the court. The delightful gardens appear discreet and in impeccable taste. There are four pools with dainty kiosks, and all around are flowerbeds, lawns, pools and fountains protected by a series of walls and shady trees. The foundation of the Sahelion ki bari functions solely by water pressure and no pumps are used.The garden has a lotus pool, a sitting room decorated with paintings and glass mosaics. The whole ambiences is flavored by the nostalgia of those beautiful bells enjoying themselves in a lavish aura.

Monsoon Palace (Sajjan Garh)

Built by Maharaja Sajjan Singh, Monsoon Palace (Sajjan Garh) in Udaipur is built along the Fateh Sagar Lake. The palace is built at a height which gives an astounding view of the landscape around. This unique hillside palatial structure was preserved by the kings as a royal shooting fort. The palace was built by Sajjan Singh to keep a watch over the monsoon clouds in the surrounding region. Later it was used as a hunting retreat for the royal family. Visitors love to keep standing in the little turrets for hours and admire the scenic beauty around. Monsoon is the best time to visit.

Jagdish temple

Maharana Jagat Singh built the stunning temple in dedication to Lord Jagannath and can be approached by a long flight of stairs. The place is located only 150 m north of the entrance to the City Palace. It enshrines a black stone image of Vishnu as Jagannath, Lord of the Universe. Considerd to be one of the most loveliest sights of attraction in Udaipur it is best known for its Indo-Aryan architecture. the temple has wonderful architecture. Lord Vishnu is worshipped here..

Maharana Pratap Memorial

Atop the Moti Magri or Pearl : Atop the Moti Magri or Pearl Hill, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake is the memorial of the Rajput hero Maharana Pratap with a bronze statue of the Maharana astride his favourite horse "Chetak". Sightseeing in Udaipur is incomplete without visiting the Maharana Pratap memorial. People visit this place to pay homage to the bravery of this great ruler.

Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum

This is the place which displays the art and culture of Rajasthan and hold puppet shows and Rajasthani Folk art concerts atits auditorium every evening. It has an inserting collection of the local folk artifacts. Its exhibited by this small museum and foundation for the preservation and promotion of local folk arts includes dresses, turbans, dolls, masks, musical instruments, paintings and - it's high point - puppets. Regular 15-minute puppet shows are held daily and are included in the admission charge.

Pichhola Lake

The pichola Lake is an important part of Sightseeing at Udaipur. The two palaces in the middle of the lake (Jagmandir and Jagniwas) has now been transformed into heritage hotels. The serene lake waters are a pleasure to watch out for.
