Types of Luggage and Corresponding Airport Baggage Policies

There are many types of luggage you can use to carry your heavy belongings during travel. However, you have to follow specific policies regarding luggage in airports. This is because some luggage may not necessarily be heavy, but their design and make cause considerable obstruction and potential danger in the passenger area. In this case, they are better stored in the cargo area.

Suitcases are among the common types of luggage. Suitcases vary in size, but their shape is roughly the same. Suitcases can be made of cloth or leather; they usually feature a stiff lining inside to keep the belongings in place. Some suitcases are small and light enough to be considered "carry-on" baggage. In contrast, big suitcases that do not fit in the overhead luggage space need to be placed in the cargo section

Some suitcases are equipped with rollers and telescoping handles. These are called trolley suitcases or roller luggage. Trolleys are often large in size; even small trolleys for children are still too thick to fit under the seats. As a result, they are often put in the cargo section, too.

People who do not carry much when they travel usually opt for duffel bags. These are large and soft bags that may be carried by hand or slung over the shoulders. Duffel bags can carry a number of clothes; they can also be equipped with hard items as a form of protection for the clothes.

People who are concerned about their bags being damaged by careless luggage handlers may opt for hard-shell trolleys. There are also trolleys made of soft fabric but are equipped with a hard lining to retain their shape. Soft trolleys are primarily inspired by the Gladstone bag, which is a relatively soft suitcase made from leather or cloth. Carry-on and roller Heys luggage may be put in the cargo depending on size and weight.

Gym bags are similar to duffel bags and Gladstone bags. These are soft bags with a tough lining to help retain their shape. The bottom lining is especially hard; it keeps things inside the bag from tumbling. A Heys luggage sale may offer a similar bag with rollers and telescopic handles.

Other luggage types include backpacks, sling bags, messenger bags, and satchels. These are widely considered more practical than handbags or carry-on suitcases as they keep the user’s hands free to hold other important objects.
