The World of Air Cabin Crew Members

One of my best friends is a member of the air cabin crew with a major airline and was recently looking for a new air cabin crew job in a trade publication which specialises in air cabin crew jobs. He had been in his present job for five years and felt that it was time for a change. When I suggested that he may wish to try a new direction and a change of career, he was adamant that he was still interested in looking for an air cabin crew job as he was not really interested in doing anything else, and knew that it would not be too long before he found something else because air cabin crew jobs were advertised with regularity.

I always knew that he enjoyed his job and often envied his lifestyle, that is, until his wife left him because he had devoted so much of his time and effort into his career that he had neglected to give enough attention to his family life and had made his wife and children feel surplus. Even though he could have applied for air cabin crew jobs which would not have taken him so far away and for such long periods, he always preferred the long haul flights and left his family alone for days at a time. This was not conducive for a happy family life since even on the occasions when he was home, he would catch up on his sleep and friends, thereby proving that he had not found his work/life balance.

He always told us how much he enjoyed the camaraderie between the air cabin crew members and how much he loved the perks of his air cabin crew job. We would be regaled with stories about the antics of various passengers whilst on the flights, and the antics of the of the air cabin crew members whilst they were on layovers. It sounded like a lot of fun but at the same time, to anyone reading between the lines, it also had a touch of pathos about it. Some sense of loneliness crept into his stories and we would be left with the feeling that all was not well.

When he found himself without his family, he finally confessed that for people doing air cabin crew jobs, life was oftenlonely and boring and not at all glamorous. He spoke of the abusive passengers and those whom suffered from airplane rage. He also told us about the pettiness of the air cabin crew members themselves. Although he had travelled to so many countries and cities around the world, he did not usually have the time or the energy to go sightseeing and spent most of his time in a hotel room. The funny thing is that despite all of these negative points, he still wished to find one of the air cabin crew jobs which would keep him flying to far off destinations and away from home for long periods of time.
