MEWPS courses are essential for those in managerial or supervisory positions in jobs that require the use of forklifts and elevated platforms. This type of environment requires trained individuals who can identify the dangers and risks that come with heavy equipment and machineries at the work place, especially those in work at height environments.

Coverage

A typical MEWPS course would cover quite a wide amount of content that would equip managers, supervisors and even employers on the best approach and safety measures to work the mobile platform or forklifts.

The course would prepare supervisors and managers in inspecting, identifying and coordinating the right mobile elevating work platforms for the right category of work to be done.

This one day course would only accommodate a maximum of 10 people at each session to ensure optimal learning with clear objectives. Successful candidates after completing the course would be more aware of the current health and safety legislation and apply them correctly; they would also be aware of the variety of accident prevention measures for themselves and others around the work site.

The course is designed to draw a higher level of awareness of the dangers and risks of any equipment to be used with the proper reading and understanding of the operating manual. The course would introduce and identify the different classifications of machines and types as well as uses.

Regulations

There would be a greater awareness of health and safety measures to be undertaken with the relevant acts identified. Course candidates would be made aware of the 1998 Regulation on the Provision and Use of Equipment at work, the Lifting

Operations & Equipment Regulation, the 1999 Health & Safety at work management regulation, the 1992 Personal Protective Work Equipment, the 2004 Work at Height regulation, the 1994 Construction Design & Management regulation, the 1995 RIDDOR and the 1988 COSHH regulation which refers to the control of hazardous substance to health.

Many of the legislation pertaining to health and safety at the workplace are difficult to read and understand without the experienced facilitators who are familiar with the regulations. These regulations are often changed to meet the changing requirements of the industry.

Practical session

Besides all the classroom information and discussion, there would also be the important practical sessions where course candidates would have hands-on experience with the various types of mobile platforms and other work at height machineries like forklifts.

Candidates would have the opportunity to view some of the latest MEWPS equipment with a demonstration.
