Rehab stands for rehabilitation. Cardiac rehabilitation is a scientifically and skillfully developed program in order to recuperate the patient faster from any type of cardiac problem. The program has been specially designed in order to gradually increase the capacity of the patient's heart, without giving excess stress on the heart. This all is done with the final aim of making the patient independent, so that he can return to his routine both professionally and personally.

There is no such compulsion about who can opt for the cardiac rehabilitation; anyone recovering from a heart disease or just had an operation can opt for the rehabilitation program. These people may include people recovering from Heart attack as well as recovering from surgeries like Angioplasty, Heart Transplant, Coronary Bypass Surgery, Heart Valve Replacement and Angina Operation. The total course time for the cardiac rehabilitation is generally of around 6 months. However in some serious cases this rehab time may extend up to 8 to 9 months because of slow recovery.

The cardiac rehab program is not just a recovery therapy but it's a blend of education, tips, exercises, dedication and continuous efforts. The involved personnel in the process are the patient, his family, medical professionals and paramedical professionals. Below given is a list of all the people concerned with it:

• The patient

• Patient's Family

• Cardiac Surgeon

• Cardiac Physician

• Rehab Dietician

• Psychologist

• Rehab Counselor

• Cardiac Rehab Exercise Expert

• Cardiac Nurse

• Helper

The brief introduction to the cardiac rehab process is given below. It will help you to know the rehab process well.

• After having a heart trouble, the cardiac patient is first admitted to the hospital and life support system is started.

• If there is a serious cardiac crisis and the patient is needed to be operated, a cardiac surgeon does the operation.

• After this, a patient is given full bed rest. Meanwhile the cardiac physician keeps a close eye on the patient's health through ECG reports and other tests and adjusts the medicinal dosages accordingly.

• After certain amount of days, a psychologist approaches the patient along with a rehab counselor. The psychologist is expected to boost patient's confidence which is very low after getting a hit back in his health. The psychologist has to make sure that the patient is mentally ready to undergo the rehab. The rehab counselor has the responsibility of explaining the full rehab procedure to the patient and his family. The counselor answers every question raised by them.

• Later, a cardiac rehab exercise expert is given the charge of the patient. This professional plays a very important role in this procedure. He advises the patient some exercises which are designed in such a way that the patient's body is relaxed without giving excess strain on the heart. At this stage, the exercise instructor also helps in performing the exercises. As the rehab process progresses, the exercise professional gradually increases the intensity and stress level in the exercises. This is done in order to slowly increase the ability of heart to pump the blood.

• The all process eventually results in recuperating the cardiac patient.

From the above discussion, it is clear that Cardiac Rehab Program is instrumental in fast recovery of the patient.
