Kerala Backwater Houseboat or Kettuvalloms is a legacy. Kettuvallom means a boat tied up with ropes. In the earlier times these house were used as good carriers. A Kettuvallom is about 67 feet in length with a width of around 13 feet in the middle, narrowed at the end. The boat is made up of local materials which are eco friendly. The main wood used for a boat is from the wild jack tree. Some of the other items used in making houseboats are ropes, bamboo poles, coconut fibre, ropes, bamboo mats and carpets. Present houseboats with fully furnished single room, double room and triple rooms with air condition facilities. A houseboat consists of four bedrooms at the highest.
