Strasbourg City Centre Things to Do
Author: DirectRooms1 | Posted: 30.11.2011Hotels in Strasbourg City Centre are well located for access to the numerous attractions and activities in this fascinating city.
Beer and Wine
Strasbourg is home to two of the world’s largest breweries, Heineken and Kronenbourg, both of which offer tours. The Heineken brewery offers two hour guided tours around their premises, most of them are in French or German, but some are run in English; however, you will need to book ahead. Kronenbourg tell you they sell over 700 million litres of beer in France alone on their 90-minute tour, which includes a tasting of their products. Again, you will need to book ahead if you would like a tour in English. For a chance to sample some of the best wines from Alsace, the Cave des Hospices de Strasbourg is a wine cellar located actually beneath the city’s hospital. They bottle a wide range of wines from Riesling to delicious Muscat.
Other Activities
Le Vaisseau museum, southeast of the city centre, is an interactive science and technology museum, which has a good range of exhibits designed to appeal to all ages. There are lots of hands-on activities and language is not a barrier to exploring the exhibits here, which range from making cartoons to crawling through a real ant colony.
To explore the region in an active way, the Club Vosgien was founded in 1872 as a regional walking organisation, but now also offers cycling and snow-shoe trips. While the club caters largely for its members, it also welcomes guests. Most of the activities take place on a Sunday and it is a great way to explore the beautiful wooded landscape of the Vosges.
