Seal Orientations Used for Hydraulic Cylinders
Author: reikopena | Posted: 08.06.2012Hydraulic seals are very common these days. These products mostly include flange packing, U-cups, and rod seals. They are particularly designed for high pressure based applications used in hydraulic cylinders. These seals are considered to have different type of orientations as well types.
When purchasing such seals for parker hydraulic cylinders, it is always necessary to consider few factors. These can be helpful in the long run. It is extremely important to have a clear understanding about the diameter of housing bore, inner seal, and outer shaft. During the purchase, these measurements need to be specified clearly. Also, it is necessary to calculate the thickness as well radius of the cross section. Other things to consider includes service limits like pressure, temperature, vacuum rating, and operating speed. These factors need to be dealt with proper care.
Different type of sealing directions is available for such industrial products. The most common ones are known as rod seal. It is typically a certain type of seal that is radial in shape. It gets fitted into housing bore perfectly. Sealing lip can well be found attached to the shaft.
Then, there is that second type which is known as Piston Seal. It is another variation of rod seal. However, here the sealing lip cannot be found in contact with shaft. Rather, the lip gets in contact totally with housing bore. The seal is pressed within the shaft.
There are some other types of seals available like axial, and symmetric. Axial seals are those ones that go in axis with housing component. Symmetric seals have a different working angle that works equal to rod as well piston seals. In other words, it can well be said that they work in an absolute symmetrical way.
