RC Helicopter and their Basic Maintenance

This is because these little contractions are already expensive and neglecting basic maintenance will cost you more in the future. Here are some of the basic maintenance guidelines that you should know:
1. Maintaining the Canopy
An RC helicopter canopy should always be detached and checked for defects often, depending on the frequency of flight the helicopter takes. You should care to check the canopy every 8 to 10 hours of flying time to make sure everything is as it should: tight and in place.
2. Check the Landing Gear
The landing gears of an RC helicopter can loosen and show some signs of damage. You should always care to have them tightened to increase the overall life of the landing gear and your helicopter itself because it ensures safe and proper landing for your helicopter.
3. Maintaining the Bearings
Your helicopter’s bearings are very susceptible to wear and tear. In order to lengthen the life of your helicopter’s bearings, keep them well lubricated; and when needed, never forego changing them.
4. The Servo Tray
Make sure that the servo tray is not cracked. Always check for its secure attachment to the fuselage.
5. The Tail Boom
Like most parts of the helicopter, the tail boom can show sighs of regular wear and tear. Make sure to release the drive tension of the belt of the shaft if you plan on storing your RC helicopter for a very long period of time.
6. The Gear Box
The gearbox located at the tail rotor is very important in maintaining a stable flight. Remember to disassemble and lubricate it often enough and check for any loose screws.
7. The Batteries
Although different people have different rule in storing battery packs, as a general rule, you should always ensure that your battery packs are never overcharged, and that you never store them with a minimum of 50% charge. You should also ensure that during the winter season, they are stored in places where they can be able to stay warm because batteries that are exposed to cold have the tendency to have the more likely need to be replaced.
8. Rubber Grommets
The rubber grommets can dry over time. Always put a light thin film of petroleum jelly over them to prevent dryness.
9. The Servo Arms
Cracks that are located in the servo arms can cause major damages to an RC helicopter, and it is for this reason that they should always be checked so that they may be replaced whenever necessary.
10. The Fuel Tanks
Fuel tanks should be inspected for leaks. If you are planning to store your RC helicopter for a very long period of time, it is advisable to drain the fuel tank.
