Planning a winter break in Lancashire

A getaway in the winter months is a treat many people allow themselves to look forward to after the fun and excitement of Christmas is over when the rainy dull days of January seem never ending! Many of us find that money is tight in the post-Christmas period so a trip abroad is usually out of the question, but a long weekend away in the UK is often within reach. England is full of beautiful places to visit and the county of Lancashire includes exciting cities, beautiful countryside and coastal resorts so is a great place to explore.

Lancashire has a rich history and plenty to explore for all travellers no matter what their interests. One of the biggest attractions in Lancashire is the county’s stunning countryside. With hills, valleys and countryside parks to explore there is plenty of rich scenery to see and even if you’ve visited before, the winter weather can dramatically change the landscape so it offers a completely new experience in these months.

If you prefer to spend time in towns and cities, there are a number of vibrant places to explore. Historic Lancaster is full of places to explore including the beautiful Williamson Park which provides views across the country and out towards the Lake District, the city of Preston is home to a number of museums as well as shops and restaurants, and there are a number of charming towns to visit in the Ribble Valley.

Many visitors to Lancashire also like to take advantage of the coastline. The archetypal British seaside resort of Blackpool features sandy beaches and a number of visitor attractions. Many of these, such as the Splashworld Waterpark, Blackpool Tower and the recently opened Blackpool Dungeon are based indoors so there is plenty to do even if the weather turns. Blackpool is also known for its lively nightlife and is popular with groups, so if you’re looking for a night out on the tiles, Blackpool is the place for you. For quieter coastal breaks, visit Fleetwood or Lytham St Annes to enjoy the seaside without the hustle and bustle.
