MCITP Server Administrator Installing and Setting Up WSUS

On the interforest trust level, you’ll usually see only two types of trusts:

Using a little logic, you can see that this is because if two forests are to trust one another, they will need to have an external trust. Note that in an external trust, the legacy domain is not considered part of the live and active MCITP Administrator portion of Active Directory. Instead, it’s considered an outside source.

Establishing Forest Trusts Between Businesses MyCorp, a small corporation based in the Midwest, is a manufacturer of combines and farm equipment that has been in business for more than 100 years. In the early days of MyCorp, its engineers designed steam-powered combines and tractors, and it has a great legacy of quality products and services. Accordingly, in the early 2000s, MyCorp pur- chased a small farm of Windows 2000 Server domain controllers to administer all of its 200 employees and dozens of printers and other pieces of hardware.

Now, for the first time, MyCorp has been entertaining the idea of a purchase offer made from MegaCorp. If the transaction were to go through, MegaCorp, as the owner, would let MyCorp operate as it has done for the past 100 years. However, MegaCorp needs an elegant way to allow the MyCorp users to access a speci?c domain within MegaCorp?s pure Windows Server 2008 Active Directory forest, which is based in Los Angeles.

In the real world, Windows Server 2008 offers a few very elegant situations that would allow you to resolve this issue without a lot of excessive complexity. You could solve this either by migrating the users to the MegaCorp domain, where they could log in remotely and access the domain, or by using an Active Directory trust.

Because elegance is the goal and because MyCorp and MegaCorp have MCITP: Server Administrator effectively merged, the most elegant solution you could implement is a forest trust. Specifically, you could establish a shortcut trust originating from the target domain to the MyCorp forest. The only decision beyond that point is whether you want the forest to be one-way or two-way. Obviously, both have advantages. But most likely, you’ll want the trust to be one-way. This is because MyCorp is staying relatively independent in operation from MegaCorp but needs access to MegaCorp ?les. MegaCorp doesn?t necessarily need access to MyCorp ?les; at the end of the day, MegaCorp just cares about the ?nancial end of the business. Therefore, you need to implement a one-way forest trust between MegaCorp and MyCorp.
