Islamic Relief: an Overview

There is hardly any dearth of organizations for islamic charity in the world today. Therefore, if you wish to contribute money for poverty stricken Muslim people, there would be no scarcity of options. Right from LIFE to Red Cross, a number of organizations are into the realm of Islamic charity. However, important names apart, the scenario has off late become packed with some obscure organizations also. Hence, anybody with the slightest amount of interest in charitable work for fellow Muslim people is advised to research the market well before taking the plunge. The question, however, is whom to trust and whom to not? After all, there have been reports surfacing off late of charitable trusts re-routing their funds to support terrorist causes. Islamic Relief Worldwide is a globally known relief and development organization comprising of a group of fifteen aid agencies that aim primarily to alleviate suffering and poverty of the poorest Muslim people in the world. The organization is inspired primarily by Islamic values. They envisage a world where social obligations are fulfilled, communities empowered, and people respond as a unified group to the miseries of fellow beings. An independent NGO or Non Governmental Organization, Islamic relief was founded in the year 1984 in UK by Hany El Banna.

For those who did not know, islamic relief Worldwide or IRW works to build partnerships, mobilize resources and spawn social capacity. In doing so, the organization enables different communities to mitigate or eliminate the effects left by disasters. It also helps communities to prepare well for the occurrence of disasters.

IRW is a member of the prestigious Economic and Social Council of the United Nations Organization. It is, moreover, also an authorized signatory to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The professionals have been enlisted as member of the Make Poverty History Group whose main aim is to eliminate poverty altogether.
