The results of reaction injection molding (RIM) are evident everywhere. And the technology of RIM can be seen ingrained in everything right from tools and tractors to auto parts and machine parts. The equipment and the products to produce these items are nearly sixty years old in the world and the business is in operation for over thirty years in America. The story began when the automotive industry started using more reaction injection molding to build gaskets for panel and radial seal air filters. Polyurethane is the basic material used in RIM and as a low cost synthetic; it makes the manufacturing process convenient in comparison to many natural metals that were used earlier for the same purpose. It all comes from a mold, and a substance had to somehow get into that mold. This is how reaction injection molding gets its name. The reaction takes place when two liquid compounds namely: a resin mixture and a polyisocynate component are rapidly supplied from separate tanks into a common mixing area. Afterwards, they undergo a chemical change and the mixture then flows into the mold.
