How to Choose the Right Floor Scrubbers

Anyone who is in the cleaning business knows that cleaning the floor is one of the most time-consuming and physically hard tasks there is. Many facilities have extensive floor space and they need cleaning often to ensure workplace health and safety. Doing it with a hand mop is often just not an option. You need to find one or more floor scrubbers for the task.

However, you cannot just go out and buy any floor scrubber; it has to be the right one for the task. Many such machines, whether they are ride-ons or push scrubbers offer the options of scrubbing or sweeping. To figure out which one is best, you have to look at both the type of floor and the kind of dirt on it. You may think that a floor with fine dust on it will only need a sweeper, but that is not correct.

Such a floor is best cleaned with water and a scrubber; otherwise the dust will fly into the atmosphere and resettle after you leave. Sweeping is best for larger particles such as shavings, metal scraps and filings and such things that will not fly into the air. In many cases both will be needed, especially if the floor is oily. The space you need to clean is also part of the equation. If there are many narrow spaces that cannot be changed, a push scrubber will fit into them better.

The floor surface is also important. A smooth floor with a sealed surface can be cleaned with a rubber squeegee so that it dries quickly. A floor that is pitted or has a textured pattern will need a brush type of cleaner and dryer. Pressure cleaners can be used for hard concrete floors that have a great deal of dirt or debris on them.

It is also necessary to look at the expanse of the floor. An electric cord will only reach so far. It is highly likely that you will need to choose from petrol pressure cleaners rather than electric ones. They are much more portable and can be used outdoors. And while they are noisier and heavier than electric ones they have more power and can get the job done quickly.

However, if you are working indoors, it is worth remembering that there will be exhaust fumes from a fuel powered cleaner. This may not concern you in a large area with open windows, but in an enclosed space will be dangerous.
