It's been just a couple of years now that I retired from the electrical industry as a journeyman electrician. I began my electrical career in an electrician apprenticeship program way back in 1981.

In my 20+ years in the electrical industry I have worked in residential, commercial and industrial electrical environments and was also employed as a service manager in charge of my own department.

I've had the opportunity to work for a wide variety of electrical contractors, both in union and non-union shops. Believe me when I say there is a big difference between the two.

Why Even Consider an Electrician Apprenticeship Program?

To begin with a journeyman electrician is generally regarded as having the BEST job in all of the construction trades.... bar none.

As an electrician you will be looked up to.... not only by other people in the construction field but also by your family, friends and acquaintances.

From personal experience, bankers, attorneys, doctors, teachers and other so called professionals hold a genuine respect for electricians.

People tend to be a bit frightened when it comes to things that have to do with electricity which leads them to hold a certain awe about the industry.

Electricians are appreciated as proficient and highly skilled workers because they have been trained to be masters of this powerful energy source known as electricity.

Electricians are the first ones to appear at the beginning of a project and the last ones to leave.

They are pretty much regarded as the most important and indispensable construction workers on the job.

But Here's The Best Part About Becoming an Electrician

Electricians typically don't have to work as hard as other trades people.

Although there is hard work involved, a journeyman electrician relies on their brain as much if not more than their brawn.

In addition, electricians are among the highest paid construction workers (except maybe for plumbers).

Let me ask you.... do you want to be a plumber or an electrician?

I thought so!

To give you a reference point as to pay potential.... I was making real close to $75K per year towards the end of my career.... and this was in a non-union shop.

No, you're not going to get rich on electrician wages but you will always be able to make a fairly good living.

A career as an electrician will provide you with a way to earn an above average income while doing work that is respected, challenging and fulfilling.

As you can see, there are lots of great reasons for entering an electrician apprenticeship program and becoming a journeyman electrician.
