Drupal is not very user friendly, as one needs to devote a lot of time for a newbie developer to learn the features of this content management system and utilize it efficiently. This is time consuming and may lead to few people losing interest in design through this platform.

Security is an important aspect for all websites and being a popular open source software used by many site developers, it is vulnerable security threats by hackers.

Another disadvantage with respect to security aspect is that sites designed on this content management system (CMS) require frequent software and module updates. This is important to keep the Drupal codebase secure.

One may also need to additional programming to customize Drupal modules for achieving the desired results. This may lead to compromising on desired functionality, vis-à-vis what is available. Some developers describe the platform as a combination of confusing navigation and bad usability.

Websites designed on Drupal platform are relatively heavy and take more time to load. Hence, such websites may not open at all with a slow internet connection. For companies, this means spending extra on upgrading servers and hardware, which is somewhere a deterrent for mid and small size companies to use this platform.

Also, the biggest disadvantage of using Drupal CMS is the fact that there is no comprehensive support system for call center available for the same. You will have to rely on communities and groups for any possible solutions to any problem that you may be facing. Moreover, some of the errors in Drupal are permanent and resolving them or debugging the site is a very tedious task and can even be expensive in the long run.

One may also find upgradation in Drupal’s versions making documentation more complicated. This just prolongs the learning curve for users as well as developers, who are looking at simple and efficient solutions.

Since Drupal is also a newer system and is not backward compatible with other software, hence someone having got accustomed to programs in place may not find adapt to this system.

As such, there are many alternatives available to Drupal such as Magento, Joomla and other open source languages that can either be used as stand alone or in synchronization with one another based on your needs and requirements.
