Also, known as Bengaluru, Bangalore is the capital of Karnataka, an Indian state. The city is famous for its parks and gardens hence it is also known as the “garden city”. In the south eastern part of the country, this city is situated on the Deccan plateau. The project related to this airport initiated as a joint venture between Government of Karnataka, Airport Authority of India and a German group namely, Siemens. In July 2005, development work in this airport started. Earlier it was postponed for about ten years. Also, the airport was designed to handle about 3.5 million passengers but later looking at the growing number of passengers the plans were designed to accommodate 12 million passengers per annum. Not only the size of the terminal increased because of redesigning but also new taxiway layouts, number of aircraft stands and infrastructure supporting them. Many cheap flights to Bangalore are also plying their services to this magnificent city.

The new airport was inaugurated on 23rd May 2008. This new four level airport building is fully air-conditioned and accommodates domestic as well as international operations in a successful manner. Separated arrival and departure areas have been designed on modern lines that allow a system of straight ahead flow. This unpretentious yet modern building truly matches international standards that are expected in any international airport.
