Aranjuez - Spain

Located at a distance of about 48 kilometers of Madrid, this small town is known for its historic buildings. It is also popular for its beautiful weather. The town lies at the confluence of the rivers Jarama and Tagus, the two great rivers of Spain. Being the river bed, Aranjuez is rich in vegetation and therefore it has pleasant weather. The weather is so pleasant that it became the official residence of kings during spring season. Some of the interesting places of visit in Aranjuez are briefly discussed here:

The prince garden:

True to its name, the garden is really princely in appearance; such is the beauty of this garden. The garden is believed to have been built by Phillip II in the year 1561. Similar parks have been built in other parts of Madrid and some of those parks are relatively larger in size. But, the Prince garden in Aranjuez is something unique because it has collection of some of the rarest species of trees, and the garden is located on the river bed which makes the garden look more beautiful. The Labrador palace which is located inside the park is another interesting place to see. The palace has a vessel museum. The Royal embankment, flower garden are the other places of attraction inside the palace.

Peasant’s house:

Although called ‘Peasant’s house’, this is the palace built by Carlos IV during the year 1805. According to historical records the king built the palace to spend weekends. This palace is just about 2 kilometers from the main palace. Peasant’s house has ball room, billiards room, platinum room etc. The aesthetic beauty of the palace makes it very popular amongst tourists.

Convent of San Pascual:

This monastery is believed to have been built in 1765 by King Charles III. This is actually a Franciscan monastery and dedicated to the conceptioninst nuns. The monastery is known for its beautiful architectural design from the famous Italian Architect by name Fancesco Sabatini. The main altar of the monastery is intricately designed and it contains some of the rare paintings by Anton Raphael.

Other places of interest:

The other places of interest include the bull fighting museum, Alpajes church, the town hall, the pleasure craft museum, the house of Infantes ande Atarfe, the old Saint Charles hospital, Medinaceli Palace, Silvela's Palace etc. There are also other parks like the Isle garden, Parterre Garden etc which are all known for their beautiful environment.
