The concept of ISO has withstood the test of time since it creates an efficient and effective system that reduces audits and enhances marketing besides increasing productivity and profit. Because of the complexities involved in ISO certification, there are a number of professional bodies that have entered this niche area as consultants.
There is an all-important field of business management system that has its own set of ISO standards and these consultants train managers and accountants in the processes and procedures that lead to the award of ISO certifications. Some of the areas of consultancy include ISO 9001 QMS, 14001 EMS and AS9100 certification besides other standards. ISO 9000 certification is a family of standards that relates to quality management systems while ISO 9001 deals with the various requirements that the organizations that wish to meet the standard need to fulfill.
AS 9100 Certification is the standard in respect of the Aviation Quality Management System. It has been especially designed for the aerospace industry and was introduced in the late 1990s. AS 9100 certification is the condition for the conduct of business in the aerospace industry while ISO 9100 is based on ISO 9001 including the supplementary requirements for both quality and safety. ISO 9100 revision C is the latest update of this standard and also includes the requirements in respect of risk management.
Therefore, the basis of AS 9100 certification is ISO 9100 and ISO 9001 (ISO 9001 revision C). These ISOs lay down the requirements in respect of the organizations that have to fulfill them. ISO 9000 certification represents the family of standards pertaining to quality management systems and is the basis on which ISO 9001 is formulated. The ultimate function of the ISO 9000 certification family of standards is to ensure that the organizations meet customer needs.
