Hy- rail also called the HI rail is a street mobile with rubber tires and is self propelled. The main feature of this kind of an automobile is that it consists of a set of flanged wheels of metals which allow this sort of a bus, to run on railway tracks also. It is named as hy rail or high rail because it incorporate highway as well as rail due to the features of this automobile. Only one set of wheels can be utilized at one time and are controlled by hydraulic or pneumatic method.

This twin functioned automobiles can easily operate on friction free tracks as well on regular streets. There have been various reasons for these mishaps which include failure of wheels, damaged tires, an improper system for supporting wheels, sometimes overloading and Different aspects have direct to hy-rail derailments which includes wheel failure, damaged tires, improper system for supporting wheels and over-loading.

Security issues and a wider and regular use of these automobiles has been an issue of debate since a long time now. A way to maximize protection from these accidents can be done by load distribution in the street vehicle requirements. Even with such a great feature, these hy rails are not considered as regular means of transport anywhere in the world.
