Few Important Things Related with Photography including Pixels, Tripods and Cropping

You need to do a small research on types of cameras available in the market keeping in mind your aspirations and needs. Today, there are DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras, compact cameras and pocket cameras to choose from with so many models and ranges. You need to figure out what sort of pictures you wish to take, how much you are eager to learn, and how much money you are prepared to spend. Also, whether you plan to be a professional photographer in the future, just use your camera as a hobby, or simply take few snapshots occasionally.

As a starter, you need to be confident in holding the camera properly. As you progress in your photography endeavor, you will learn new things that would help you use your camera proficiently while achieving more creative images.

For photographers, lighting is the thing they leverage on and manipulate to achieve their output. Getting the best out of the sun is one of their targets. You will learn interesting techniques related with filling in the shadows. You will also learn a lot about indoor lighting. One of the areas where you may like to spend a lot of time is achieving ultra close-ups in focus.

It is the no. of pixels that define the quality of photos from digital cameras in a significant way. For practical purposes, it is the length of pictures that would determine the amount of pixels that you require for your digital camera. For a post card size photo, 6 million pixels is perhaps adequate. In addition to pixels, quality of lens is also important for good photos.

Cameras can be broadly categorized into two heads: fixed lens and interchangeable lens. Cameras with fixed lens are smaller, lighter and more portable. Professional photographers still like to use tripods although they are bulky and heavy for a reason. It is not just because of nostalgia: there are certain things you can do only and only on tripod.

In these days of automatic cameras, an important feature that distinguishes professional photographers from laymen is composition: boundary of the photo is a decision which is in the hand of a photographer and has profound impact on the end result. This is technically called cropping. Viewpoint, the position from which you take photos of your subject, is also a defining factor in the quality of output of your image. Understanding which viewpoint is actually the best for the kind of photos you are aspiring for is an important step in your transformation from an amateur photographer to a professional photographer.

Today, you can use member’s gallery on Web to get feedbacks on your photos. One important thing that you should keep in mind is presentation. Photography is all about presentation, and so golden rules of presentation apply to photography as well. Show only the best photos even if there is temptation to show all. You will later not regret as you have succeeded in maintaining the interest and avoided the frustration of making the viewers bored. Also, you need to take proper backups and storage so that there is no chance to lose your photos because of technical and other lapses.
