A lot of people seem to think that getting a great image is as simple as pointing and shooting. So why does being a photographer seem like such a daunting task? Why are there such complications such as the right angle, the perfect lighting and lighting conditions, the beautiful set-up, the complicated camera settings and many other elements? Why is there a need to occasionally change lenses, positions, aperture and shutter speed, the constant need to delete and retake before they arrive at the perfect shot? Why is there also a need for photo editing? Why do professional Albury photographers stress over all these things when they want to capture an amazing image?

People who don’t do photography for a living and take pictures for recreation can perhaps be already satisfied with a clear picture captured by their cameras or phones. But for professional Albury photographers, pictures are considered an art form. This is why they play on a lot of different photography elements: lighting, color, hue, saturation, among other things. The main goal is simply to give focus to the picture’s message, subject and theme. All the elements, equipment and conditions are all being considered to make sure that the photo will be able to get a message across.

Of course, art being such a relative term, each photographer has different styles and approaches when it comes to capturing an image. This has to do greatly with how they perceive a subject. For example, if they are attempting to capture a broken hearted woman, you will see different approaches to one subject, but the same message is being put across. One photographer may use some dark lighting with pale saturation and a bluish hue to give a feel of coldness. Another may play with warmer colors with a more casual feel, but will use a faded vignette to give a sense of being closed in. Another, still, may approach it with black and white photography. It all depends on their perspective on the subject, and the technical skills are what they use to carry out that perspective.

Some Albury photographers look for a good location and set a certain time for the best natural lighting possible. For them, a studio set-up and a choreographed pose may not work for them when capturing emotions, so they go for a more genuine feel. This being said, when it comes to more casual shoots, they go for simple outdoor or indoor shoots where they can just put in a little bit of light set-up and their subjects can move as freely as they could. While their subjects are moving about, they simply just position themselves at a desirable angle and click away. During post production, they simply choose the best shots to edit and compile.

When it comes to photo-editing, this is done to further enhance some aspects of the photo which cannot be achieved during the actual shoot. Perhaps a darker hue, a more faded feel, an addition of a vignette or changing the colors into sepia or black and white – these are all achieved during post production. Once everything has been processed, the final result will be the art itself – a great memory, feeling and experience captured to tell or retell a story.
