Becoming an Advertising Photographer

It has often been said that men are more visual than women, meaning that they are touched and affected by what they see whereas women are more affected by other senses, such as sound, smell and touch. This may be why the majority of photographers are men. Speaking of which, just thinking of the words advertising photographer, Yorkshire comes to mind and a close friend of mine who lives there now.

We both grew up in the same street in Manchester and went to the same school. After college where we both did our A levels, we finally went our separate ways to universities in in different parts of the country. While I concentrated on building a solid career for myself in the fashion industry, he was busy travelling around the world and making a living as a freelance photographer. We kept in touch though and when I heard that he had finally decided to settle down in one place, I was glad that our paths would cross more often.

He had realised that his passion was for advertising and he had decided that he was going to be the best advertising photographer Yorkshire had ever known.I knew that he would succeed as he had more talent, determination and stamina than anyone I have ever met, but even I didn’t realise how quickly he would achieve his goals. He now has a very successful business and when anyone needs an assignment completed with efficiency and professionalism, he is the first advertising photographer to come to peoples mind. Since a lot of his success is based on his reputation he is careful to ensure that he always provides quality images at a reasonable price, since there is no point of being such a good photographer and then pricing yourself out of the market.

Since his focus is mainly on advertising photography, we also manage to do some business together and he is our first choice when it comes to shooting the season’s new catalogues and brochures for the advertisement that are necessary in our trade. Without advertising, so many businesses cannot manage to grow or even keep on, so it is essential to promote your product. These days, this promotion could be through websites and the social networking media more than through the traditional television and magazines.

The advertising photographer is the person who can make even a mediocre product look irresistible and tempt people to spend their money. Visual imagery is essential to increase sales and promote the image of a company or individual. For example, if a client is launching a new line of jewellery, they will want to promote it in such a way that people will want to buy it even if they know that they neither need it nor can afford it. Since jewellery is a non-essential item, the advertising, and especially the photographs, need to be very well thought out and executed in order to make believe that they should hand over their cash.
