Shopping for Horse Blankets Online

By Emily Heggan Subscribe to RSS | July 10th 2012 | Views:

Your horse just tore a hole in his blanket to shreds and you can’t get to a tack store. Your next option would be to buy a new blanket for him online. Before you jump on the computer and click away, you should do some research to find the best blanket for your buck.

In many situations, horse owners buy blankets and not knowing what they really need to look for. They then buy a blanket and figure out the blanket isn't even worth half the money they spent or it doesn’t suit their needs. Nothing can bother a horse owner more than paying for something that just doesn't work. You can beat this aggravation by choosing Schneider’s Saddlery.

Schneider’s offers a variety of blankets both affordable and made of great quality. There are several things to think about before you click that “place order button”.

Before hopping on the computer think about what type of blanket you are going to need. Will it be for fighting off those flies, or keeping your horse warm during those windy days? Is your horse living outside? If so, then a good waterproof blanket is going to be high on your priority list.

A good thing to look for in a blanket is the “denier” of the blanket. Denier is a measurement that is used to identify the thickness of individual fiber or threads that the blanket is made out of. The higher the number, for example 600, 800, or 1200, the more threads or fibers the blanket is made out of. The higher the thread count the stronger, more durable and more weather resistant the blanket will be.

Another thing to consider when choosing a blanket is the breathability or the amount of fill that the blanket has. The higher the fill the thicker and warmer the blanket. Sheets have no fill. Blankets however, come in 3 different weights for different weather conditions and temperatures. Blankets come in lightweight (180grams of fill), medium weight (200grams of fill) and heavy weight (300grams of fill). Deciding what weight blanket you will need depends on what the weather and temperature it is in your area.

When you are online searching for a blanket, not only should you find one that best suits you and your horses needs that is in your price range, but one that other horse owners like as well. Finding a good product, or blanket in this case, is right at your fingertips. When you search the sites you can see the product ratings and reviews that other horse owners, like yourself, have tried the product and let others know their thoughts and feelings about it. Reading other’s thoughts about the blanket will help you to sort of “try it before you buy it” kind of thing. Reading what other horse owners think and know about a product will make you decisions that much easier.

So before you log onto the nearest computer and start shopping away for the cutest colored or designed blanket, think about all the factors that go into “the right” blanket. Don’t just choose a blanket because it has pink and brown polka-dots. Choose a blanket of good quality, durability and affordability. Start shopping.
