Toulouse City Centre Things to Do

Most hotels in Toulouse City Centre are within easy reach of the town’s main attractions. Explore the city on foot or by bicycle, the Tisseo ‘Velibe’ stations can be found across the city. The ‘Velibe’ is like a bicycle taxi and the first 30 minutes hire cost a flat fee of €1, while you pay an additional fee for longer use. Within those first 30 minutes, however, you can borrow a bicycle as many times as you like for the flat fee.

Sports

Toulouse hosts France’s international rugby matches at its Stade Toulousain and if you are lucky enough to be visiting when a game is on, it is well worth trying to buy a ticket. At other times, the local team, Toulouse Olympique play in France’s league and are enthusiastically supported by local fans, both young and old.

Aeronautics and Space Travel

Toulouse is the home of Airbus and many locals are employed by the aircraft manufacturer or in associated industries. You can take a tour of the facilities, which lasts around an hour and includes a visit to the A380 production line. There is very high security, for obvious reasons and you will need to book in advance, bring photographic identification, such as a passport; photography is forbidden. Even so, the tour is very interesting and sets off from a building designed like a cross section of an A380. La Cite de Espace (Space City) is a museum dedicated to space travel, with a good range of exhibits designed to appeal to all ages. There is a walk through replica of the Russian ‘Mir’ space station, together with exhibits explaining how satellites are launched and manoeuvred into position once they are in orbit.
