Marmaric City Centre Things to Do
Eating out is an activity itself in Marmaris. There are many fine restaurants to choose from, often serving delicious local style food. During the day, there are plenty of cafés to explore. A great place to start is the Long Beach promenade, which is a popular eating and walking spot in Marmaris. As well as taking in the sun, sea and sand, plus numerous water sports, tourists will find that the bars, cafés and restaurants along the promenade serve a variety of fresh foods to suit every taste.
Turkish cuisine features many dishes that tourists may be familiar with from Turkish style restaurants in their home country, but there are many dishes that are less popularised outside of Turkey, while still being delicious and well worth trying. Vegetable dishes including aubergine, as well as a range of sweet products, are included among these. Meze dishes, which are small 'starter' style servings of traditional foods such as humous and other delicacies, are often served. Kebabs and stews are other staples of Turkish food. Try the Netsel Marina area – the restaurants here are of a very high standard.
Marmaris plays host to a number of popular events during the course of a year. In the springtime, there is the Marmaris Maritime and Spring festival, which is held in May each year. There are plenty of boating and water sports displays, to keep visitors at the hotels in Marmaris city centre well entertained.
In the summer, Marmaris has a film event called the Marmaris Cinema Festival. Seven films from seven directors are showcased here, and it is held between the latter half of June and the first half of July.
Museums and History
Marmaris is also a fascinating place to explore history. The Marmaris Castle is also a museum, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Art, history and botany are all covered here.
For in-depth information on the history of the town, a visit to the museum, as well as a guided tour, are both recommended.
