Lourdes City Centre Things to Do
There is plenty to see and do close to many of the hotels in Lourdes City Centre. You could take a guided tour of the area if you prefer to be shown around the best sights and be provided with detailed information about them.
Lourdes is most famous for being a pilgrimage hub, attracting five million people from around the world each year. This is all because of sightings of the Virgin Mary who, it is believed, was seen at the cave below where the Basilica of the Rosary stands. This huge Roman cathedral features stunning architecture and gives a sense of prestige to the entire area; both the cathedral and cave are free to enter. There is a procession of pilgrims carrying candles every night at 9pm, which is well worth seeing.
There are some cute little boutique shops in Lourdes, as well as a range of cafes and restaurants to dine in. It is possible to book a music show or opera performance at one of the city’s theatres if you are looking for a little entertainment in the evenings. Some of the hotels also have their own bars, disco nights and shows on offer to keep guests entertained.
Lourdes’ Castle and Pyrenean Museum are also well worth a visit if you are interested in learning more about the area’s history and culture. The national park has beautiful stunning views and lots of wildlife to enjoy, which also makes it an ideal day out for children. The Pic du Jer Railway enables visitors to take in a view of the whole city.
