A quick look at the all-new CX-5
As a manufacturer with a reputation of building reliable and stylish cars it’s not surprising that the has grabbed a lot of attention since it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The sleek and stylish compact SUV is the first Mazda car to feature the new KODO ‘Soul of Motion’ design language and it certainly benefits from it. From all angles the Mazda CX-5 is a handsome beast, managing to look aggressive yet suitable all at the same time.
But it’s not just the exterior of this exciting new SUV that provides something to write home about. Under that new nose lies a 2.2litre sequential turbo diesel power block that really delivers on the power front, with two different versions offering up 147bhp and 173bhp respectively. It will also be available with a straight 2.0litre petrol engine that will churn out a very smooth 162bhp when called upon.
The Mazda CX-5 also carries very good eco credentials, with the lower-powered 2.2litre sequential engine puffing out just 119g/km of Co2 on its travels. It’s also very considerate to its driver, as trips to the pumps look like they will be significantly lower than some of its rivals. Fuel consumption for the entry-level diesel engine with front wheel drive is a healthy 63 mpg – more than enough to take the kids to school, go shopping or whatever it is you do in SUVs.
In fact, considering how little you’ll be at petrol stations should you buy one, treat yourself and get a scotch egg when you are eventually required to give it a little drink.
