Offices are designed differently from homes. While homes give you a feeling of relaxation, offices like those in Washington DC are usually designed to let you know that you are in a business environment. People who work from home also set aside a permanent working space for them to have a semblance of an office setting.

The word office comes from the Latin word officium, which means courtesy, duty, and service. These words are appropriate even in modern business settings. Today, when we hear the word office, we think of swivel chairs, tables, computer screens and well-ventilated, air-conditioned rooms. The modern-day office is also associated with cubicles and work stations.

The swivel chair and table best symbolize the office experience. Swivel chairs are comfortable and can be rotated to 360 degrees. It is appropriate for people who spend at least eight hours a day in the office. The table should provide legroom, be spacious enough for the PC and still provide an adequate working area.

Planning the office design isn’t always easy. Each office requires a different number of people who perform a variety of tasks. Offices usually have work spaces, meeting spaces and support spaces to accommodate all the work to be done. If all the functions required by the company cannot fit in a single room, the management can locate these functions into separate, smaller rooms in adjacent locations in the building to allow better work flow.

Most large office spaces can be divided into three types: open offices, team spaces and cubicles. A Washington DC office space with an open office design can accommodate at least ten people, and is suitable for tasks that require frequent face-to-face communication among the workers. A team space is semi-enclosed and can accommodate two to eight people. It is ideal for jobs that require an average level of concentration. Cubicles are semi-enclosed and are designed to fit only one person. It is appropriate for jobs that involve a high level of concentration and little interaction.

A Washington DC office space for smaller businesses also has three types. These are the private office, shared office and team room. The private office can accommodate only one person; the shared office, two people; and the team room, four to ten people. These types of offices are suitable for functions that involve the exchange of confidential information between two or more parties.

The Washington DC office space can accommodate other office requirements aside from those related with everyday business operations. These include meeting rooms, where employees and management exchange information and feedback; and support spaces for filing and storage.
