Striking Childhood Qualities of Some Eminent Leaders

By Harry Yadav Subscribe to RSS | January 18th 2012 | Views:

Childhood is one of the purest stages when a child is takes decisions with one mind without thinking of any worldly counter effects. This quality fades as children grow up into adults because there are a number of influences and other factors that come into play while a decision is made. As a child, Mohandas Gandhi never broke his promise about eating meat, drinking wine, or praying throughout his life. His religion and beliefs mattered to him even then. It is said that while an inspection was going on in school, a teacher was giving the children Dictation. Mohandas didn’t know the spelling of the word and kettle and while the teacher could see him fumble for help, she decided to tell him the spelling to save her face in front of the inspector. But Mohandas refused to copy and with that began his tryst with truth which lasted throughout the Indian Freedom struggle.

One dark night little Mohan was suddenly frightened that a ghost lurking in some dark corner suddenly spring on him. His mother sent him to fetch something from another room. Out of fear, his heart began to beat loudly. Rambha, the old maidservant stood by the door and asked him what had happened and laughed when he told her. Think of Rama and no ghost will dare come near you. No one will touch you. Rama will protect you." Rambha's words gave Mohan courage. Repeating the name of Rama, he left the room. And from that day, Mohan was never lonely or afraid. He believed that as long as Rama was with him, he was safe from the danger.

This faith gave Gandhiji strength even in his last few minutes on earth when he was assassinated because the words on his lips were “Hey Ram.” Born on April 20, 1889 Hitler was the fourth child of Alois Schickelgruber and Kara Hitler. As a young boy, Hitler dreamt of becoming a priest, but his talent as a painter made him qualifies for Realschule but even there the jews made it big with finer work and better scores. His resentment for the jews stemmed out of this. He felt the jews were parasites, sucking up the blood of the local Germans who deserved but could not get jobs or respect in their own country.

Guglielmo Marconi’s child hood was full of ridicule because the children would make fun of his Italian accent. Marconi faced a setback when he failed in his matriculation and his father in all his anger stopped his son from receiving any pocket money in school. Still Marconi studied on his own to invent the Telegraph which was a marvel at that time. Pablo Picasso hated painting until the brush was thrust in his hands by his father, an art teacher in school. In fact, his first few drawings were such disasters that it frightened him. He still went on to become one of the world’s most famous painters in history. There are qualities in children that are sometimes fanned by parents and at times fanned by fate to become a fire to fuel some social need in the world.
