Know Your Student’s Likes and Dislikes

By Osa Subscribe to RSS | December 23rd 2011 | Views:

When it comes to knowing a child’s likes and dislikes, we expect parents to know everything. Though, it is true that no one else can know a child better than parents, but we also should not forget that our children also spend a long time in schools with teachers. We won’t be wrong if we say that teachers also know our children, may be partially, more than anybody after parents. Our children spend one-fourth of the day in school. Many times, it has been found that they find any of the teachers so close to them that they can share their problems or even happiness with the teacher. In such cases, we can say that even teachers know the likes and dislikes of our children.

It is sometimes required that the teachers should know the students properly. If parents notice any change in their child’s behavior, they can discuss the problem with the teachers. There are many changes occur in our child that we do not notice but their teachers can figure it out.

Teachers also need to understand their students’ tastes to connect them through their minds properly, so as to make the teaching and learning process effective. They can also use some tricks to find out what their students like and do not like.

• Arrange a worksheet for the students that will comprise of detail of what to find, a space to keep a record of the names and an additional question that the students can ask once they discover someone who fits their description.

For instance, the first item of the finder list might be "Find out somebody with curly hair." The student would successfully find out someone with curly hair and write down the person’s name.

• On the first day of school teachers should send every student to their home with a brown paper bag and instruct them to load it with at least five items that they like. Students can be asked to prepare their own personality bag to show the class an example first.

On the next of the school, collect the bags and hand them out at random. Tell the students to sneak a quick look into their bag to make sure that if they have not received their own. One by one each of the students should get the items out and guess what they may stand for. After all of them are done with a turn of guessing about the items, they get an option to guess which student which of the bag belongs to. Let each student try for at least thrice before the owner of the bag comes forward.

• Provide each student with a piece of poster board, and give the entire class with various magazines. Ask the students to search and cut out 10 things they are fond of and 10 things they do not like. After pasting the stuffs to create a poster, allow the students to take turns presenting their tastes in front of the entire class.

With a few of the given tips you can easily find out what you students like and what they dislike. Only teaching a student is not enough. It is also necessary to keep a track of what situation your student is going through.
