Education: Transition from the Past to Present Era

A few decades ago, education was more bookish than practical. Children were forced to read books, as set by their parents whether they liked them or not. There was little scope for choosing the subjects of their choice, as restricted subject choices were available. But with the birth of concepts like globalization or free flow of information, now the children get equal chance of studying the subjects of their choice. Earlier, the role of the teachers was to correspond to teach the assigned subjects meticulously. But now the teaching strategies have changed. The class rooms have become a platform where both the children and the teachers get an equal chance of being a part of a discussion.

The education sector has been freed from the clutches of imperialism. In most of the developing countries, education is available to everyone. India has also taken a gigantic step by providing free and compulsory education to the children who are in 6 to 14 years of age. Not that only, the government has launched many education programs for the adult people of the country so that they also can reap the fruit of education. Over the last few decades, the role of education in national development has been one of the most discussed topics both in the social sciences, in debates on planning policy, in national and international forums alike.

This is something the experts in comparative studies in education might care to ponder at a time where people are everywhere busy. To match with the developing world, every other country is putting proper emphasis on providing high standard education. The scholars in the present world have recognized it well that only with proper education, a human being and the society at large can attain high standards in the world spectrum. If we analyze different countries’ education system, we can easily make out that in most of the countries the private organizations are giving more fruitful results than the government ones.

In some developing countries, private schools perform better than their public counterparts. It is worth noticing that in private schools, parents get equal chance of participating in school management and governance. To make people aware about different issues, there are various others means adopted by government as well as private organizations. Different NGOs often arrange programs like puppetry shows, jatras, kirtans and educational camps so that people can be made aware of diverse social issues. This is beneficial for people living in remote villages as they may not understand the written notifications. About the schools in the country, they also went drastic changes since independence.

The introduction of smart classes, technically sound laboratories, and e-learning materials is an inclination that the education system is rapidly going through drastic changes. Today India is in such a position where people from different countries of the world are relocating here just to pursue their higher studies. It also involves the strengthening of education, the infrastructure of institutions, modernization, changes in the curriculum, including the raising the quality and performance of the teachers are also contributing to raising the standard of education worldwide.
