The use of stone wall has been prevalent for centuries when these were used for creating boundary walls and even the main structures for living quarters. Though the earliest known use of these were in a loose form the discovery of plaster and mortar gave a more permanent look and structure to these. For many years now the designs of stone fire places have been in vogue; these have given a look of warmth and elegance to fireplaces in many countries of the world. The choices of stones that are made is usually ones available locally; that way it is also easily procurable and less expensive.

For the making of stone wall, the usual and popular stones used are limestone, granite, flint and sandstones among others that are unique to places. These are used by manufacturers and dealers of stone fittings appropriately for the placement on walls – both exterior and interiors. There is a difference in the thickness and measurements of those used for stone fire places. These are usually thicker in their dimensions and can be placed with convenience when erecting the entire fireplace. However, there are times when you may simply opt for a new frontal view of the fireplace; in that case, the thickness of the stone slabs is usually less.

Different kinds of embellishments and carvings are very often given to stone fire places. These add to the décor and the natural warmth that exudes from the use of stone. There are contemporary styled modern homes that have oftentimes included a stone wall as part of its interiors. It forms a unique design and can also double up as the fireplace of the house. In addition to being cost-effective, this is also pleasing to the sight and has a timeless charm to it. With appropriate lighting and furniture arrangements, you can easily turn this into a warm and friendly place of your home.
