Paving Block & Sandstone Paving

By Stone Seller Subscribe to RSS | July 2nd 2012 | Views:

If you are in the process of repaving your patio or driveway and are trying to decide on which stone to lie, consider using either the paving block or sandstone paving method. Each method has low maintenance, cost-effective and is mainly used for decoration purposes, which makes them ideal for outside floors.

What is Paving Block & Sandstone Paving?

Paving block, or also known as block paving, is a form of hard standing and is primarily used for decorative purposes. It essentially creates a hard surface on top of several bricks for easy removal or transportation. Common places where block paving is used include patios or driveways. Sandstone paving is basically the same concept; however, it is stone rather than blocks or bricks. Usually the stone is imported from India and has a rustic look to it. The jagged edges and other elements of the stone give it an almost unfinished look, but that’s just how it is and many homeowners like that feature.

The Differences between Paving Block & Sandstone Paving

Paving block can withstand outside elements extremely well since concrete is mainly used. When it comes to sandstone paving, there are things to watch out for that makes it extremely different than paving block. One of the main worries about sandstone paving is discoloration due to weather or water absorption. Buffing is also another reason for discoloration, so homeowners with sandstone paving on their patio or driveway need to take the necessary precautions to protect the stones.

Another difference is how each one is laid onto the ground. Paving block or Sandstone Paving can be laid with concrete; however, with sandstone paving, you can actually skip that progress and lay it down without using concrete or mortar. It’s relatively easy, and you save additional money in the end. If you do not feel confident in your DIY skills, then skilled professionals can finish the job for you.

Why Should You Choose Paving Block or Sandstone Paving?

Either of these pavement options will add value to your home, so you can’t go wrong there. Also, these options are cost effective, meaning that you are getting your monies’ worth. The installation process is rather quick and is a task that you are able to do yourself; however, hiring skilled professionals is sometimes the way to go just to get the work done faster.

Before choosing Paving Block or sandstone paving, take into account how you or your family will treat it. If you solely wanting pavement that is decoration purposes, then consider the sandstone paving because of the rustic look it has. Although paving block is used primarily for decoration purposes as well, it is a bit more versatile and able to withstand certain elements, unlike sandstone paving, which is prone to discoloration. Whichever one you choose, make the redecoration process fun and a memory to remember!
