Building Standards to be followed by Homeowners
Whether you are buying a new home or existing home with a built-in security system like ADT Security Service, there are some building rules and standards that you need to know. Not only that, you need to know and follow them.
Building safety is an important issue and critical component of individual as well as homeland safety. Besides playing an important role in personal and public safety, it also has a huge role in the economic well being of the nation. Seriously, while natural and unnatural disasters have devastating and heartbreaking effects on our country and around the world; the modern building safety standards and fire prevention codes help us to withstand, mitigate, and rapidly recover from hurricanes, winter storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, and even floods.
So many of the building safety and disaster prevention officers have to make sure about the structure and interior systems of the house. They need to know about the wire connections, the security systems, drainage pipes, and the list goes on and on. The house has to be safe to live in and less prone to disasters. It sounds like an easy task, but frankly, it is a tough one.
Nowadays, the real estate business is one of the hottest one. People are selling houses like hot cakes. So amidst the various necessities of selling the house and making profit, people tend to ignore about the safety of the house. Not that they totally forget about the safety of the house, but they check only for the basic security standards like the electricity line connection and the water pipe leakages. There are other things that need to be checked and made sure about before you purchase the dream house of yours. The following are some of them:
Choosing a good home inspector – This is the area where people go wrong. They try to go for home inspectors who have taken night-courses or taken some three hours on-line training. Some of them even go for college students who have taken night classes. When it comes to the security of your house, you should always choose a pro or a good home inspector. The inspector should be experienced and should know a lot about home and building standard rules. It could be expensive, but it will be worth for your money.
House Structure- You along with the home inspector has to check the house property from a realistic distance. Basically, making a thorough check of the entire house, will give you a clear view about the house. You need to check for cracks on the walls, if the walls are crooked and the general state of the flooring.
Roof – Also you need to check the condition of the roof. You have to see whether the roof is new or old. Sometimes old roof will have cracks and holes which need to be repaired and replaced. Always make sure to check the roof before selecting a house.
Rainwater Controlling Facility – It is important for every house to have a good rainwater controlling facility. Try to find out whether the gutter and drain pipes carry water outside the house and its property. Also check whether there is a possible chance of flooding or water leakage in the basement. Always make sure to check for indications and evidences of water leakage.
Household Fixtures – Another important thing is to make sure whether the bathroom and kitchen fixtures are of good quality. Besides that, make sure that they are running properly.
Electrical Systems – Always check whether the plug-points and the switches are working properly. Try to check whether the security system is of good company and working condition. Make sure whether the main circuit breaker is of at least 1000 Amps.
So in short, before signing the lease or the purchase agreement on a house, try to find out more about the exterior and interior aspects of that house. You need to make sure that the house is up to your standards and safe to live in.
