An outline of double glazing standards

By Stephen Sparrow Subscribe to RSS | May 15th 2012 | Views:

Double-glazing can bring great benefits to you and your home and it has proven to be a worthwhile investment for homeowners across the UK.

By installing double-glazing, a sufficient amount of heat can be kept within your home, reducing heating bills considerably. The use of these windows can keep noise out due to the added insulation, which is ideal for those who live in busy areas. The carbon footprint of homes with double-glazing is significantly lowered due to less heat escaping; resulting in the amount of energy needed being reduced.

To ensure that consumers receive the best service possible, individuals that are having double-glazing installed should consider the following points:

• Were your windows installed on the planned day and at the agreed time?

• Your installers should use dust sheets to protect any furniture or flooring when fitting the windows in your home.

• If mess was made, the window fitters should have left the working area tidy and clean.

• Were the fitters of your windows polite or were they disruptive through the use of loud communication devices such as radios.

• You should always look to check the installation of your windows before the workers leave your property.

• Did you notice any problems with your windows? If so, did the company resolve the issue quickly and effectively?

Time management

Before you agree to the fitting of the windows, you should ask your consultant for the availability of dates that the windows can be installed. You should then inquire how long the fitting will take before it is fully complete. The length of time that is required to install the window depends on the number of windows and the work involved, but it usually takes roughly 1-3 days to install.

Reputable companies will only require full payment once the customer is completely satisfied with the double glazed windows that were installed. A deposit is commonly paid before the fitting commences, but full payment should not be paid until the job is completed to the customer’s approval.

Window installation companies that are well established should offer a guarantee. You should determine what your guarantee entitles you to and keep this in mind throughout the process.
