The Importance of Sleep in our Life
Many people don’t understand the importance of sleep. It is very much oblivious that sleep is beneficial and most people don’t realize how much sleep they need and why it is important. In today’s fast paced life, getting an eight or nine hours sleep can be considered as a thing of the past.
Sleep is as important as eating, drinking and breathing. Extensive researches have proven the connection between a good night’s sleep to a healthy mind. If you have a healthy mind, it means you are active and recharged for the day. Seriously a good sleep will make your mind clear, emotions less fragile and your body healthy.
Whenever you ask a fitness expert or body trainer on how to remain fit, they will always say that you need to get a good sound sleep. Yeah! Besides eating the right food and exercising, sleep plays a major role in keeping you fit. You are bound to make more progress and develop the required kind of body if you don’t compromise on your eight hours of sleep.
Sleep helps in building and repairing muscles. If you are an athlete; continuous exercising and body building will break down your muscles. The breaking down of the muscles is not a bad thing and you can easily repair them if you get a good sleep. When you sleep, your brain is less active and all the oxygen and blood will go to your muscles. This will help in fixing the broken muscles and as soon as you get up in the morning you will feel as good as new.
Getting a good sleep will help in the development and growth of hormones. Many of the hormones in our body are active when our brain is taking rest. As our brain takes rest when we are asleep, hormones such as growth hormones become active and are released. These hormones are very important for children and necessary for the various stages in their growth. Not only growth hormones, other hormones are also kept in proper balance and controlled when we are asleep.
Also sleep plays a major role in our metabolism. People who are suffering from insomnia have been tested to have high rate of glucose. It is because if you don’t get enough sleep, your body will change the way it digests carbohydrates. These people who are suffering from insomnia will look normal in the initial tests, but as days pass by, their glucose level increases and will be equal to a type-2 diabetic.
Many coaches and trainers have found out that players play properly if they get a good amount of sleep. They concentrate better and are more active in the field. This has also lead to less injury while playing and training as their mind and body becomes active and immune respectively.
Sleep-deprived people have shown to suffer from obesity, high blood pressure, and decrease in the immune system. Even to some extent, people get heart attack and suffer from a nervous breakdown due to improper sleep. There have been many cases in the US and other countries where people have suffered and died due to stroke. After further investigation and medical checkup, it was found out that they were suffering from insomnia.
Many of us know that it is difficult to get a good amount of sleep as you have the work pressure, family stress, noise disturbance from the constant ringing of the phone like ATT Home Phone, etc. But there are various solutions that can help us to overcome this problem and have a good sound sleep. At least if we are not able to have an eight or nine hour sleep, we must try for seven hours. People who are sleep-deprived can become cranky and may look like zombies.
