Skin tags are benign skin growth that is very common for most of the people. Usually the reason why people want t remove a skin tag is because of aesthetic reasons.

The biggest concern for those who are concerned about skin tag removal is how to remove a skin tag without leaving scaring? Fortunately there are many good options available today.

Below are the most popular options how to remove a skin tag at the doctor's office:

Remove a skin tag with electro cauterization. The procedure is rather simple. The medical practitioner or in some cases the nurse will apply a very hot needle that is heated with electrical current on the skin tag. Once the cells of the skin tag are burned, the doctor removes the remains of the dry and burned skin cells. In some cases, if there are some unusual skin tag growths, the cells are send to the laboratory for further examination.

The major advantage of this method is the speed. It is a very quick procedure. It takes just a few minutes to burn the skin tag using electro cauterization method. The major disadvantages are the possibilities of scarring, as well as healing period may take at least a week, but usually up to several weeks.

Compared to electro cauterization, laser skin tag removal is much better method in terms of the risk of scaring. With this skin tag removal method the doctor applies a targeted laser beam to the skin tag causing it to dry up. It takes just minutes to remove dead cells of the burned skin tag. Laser skin tag removal is one of the best options for those who are concerned about scaring. The precision of the laser targets only necessary cells and leave surrounding skin untouched. In this way only a tiny dot of the spot where the skin tag was present is cleared and it takes just few days for skin to heal leaving very little if any scaring. Apart from many advantages of the skin tag laser removal, the biggest drawback of this method is the price. It may cost at least one hundred dollars to remove just one skin tag with laser. For those who have many skin tags, the total cost can be quite high. In addition, most insurance plans will not cover the removal of skin tags.

Freezing method to remove skin tags is somehow lesser used method, because of its wider application for wart removal. However, freezing skin tags with liquid nitrogen is sometimes used also for skin tags. This is not expensive and is quick procedure. Medical practitioner applies or injects liquid nitrogen to the skin tag destroying the cells. Once the cells are destroyed, the skin tag can be removed by scratching off its remains. Similar to the electro cauterization, freezing method has the higher risk of scaring to occur.

When considering all medical options how to remove a skin tag, many come to conclusion that there should be good home based alternatives to the skin tag removal. Indeed there are quite a number of home based solutions, like applying special substance or cream, such as Dermatend, or using home based methods, like dental floss or apple cider vinegar to remove a skin tag.

Whichever method you chose, make sure you evaluate all pros and cons of every method to find the one that is most suitable for your needs and budget.
