Blood Testing and Its Medical Importance
Blood test can be defined as the medical examination of the blood. A medical professional, mostly from the hematology department or from the diagnostic center, takes the blood sample, preferably, from the vein of the wrist or elbow. However the blood sample is taken from the tip of the finger of a child. This small amount of blood is then subjected to medical examination for any abnormalities.
How blood testing works?
Blood tests are of great importance in the medical world for the amount of information these tests provide. It gives the confirmation of a number of diseases ranging from the minor infections to the grave diseases like AIDS which are detected through the blood tests. With the growing threat of such diseases governments, especially in developing countries, have opened a large number of blood testing centers at different places where blood tests are done free of cost.
This works on the comparison basis. Doctors, after a lot of research, have found that the components of blood show variations when a person is sick. There is a normal range of RBC’s, WBC’s, and Platelets, albumin, uric acids and a lot of other components. This normal range has been laid after medical examination of a healthy blood over the years. Variation of the different components of the blood with the normal range signifies different diseases. Even the amount of variation means a lot to doctors.
Few diseases those are determined through the blood tests:
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS):
This disease is caused by the HIV virus and is basically the disease of the human immune system. The virus attacks the human defence (immune) and thus the body is unable to fight against bacteria, fungi, viruses etc. that makes even the minor infection lethal for the patient.
There are a lot of reasons behind its spread like unprotected sex, use of same needle by different people etc. This disease is one of the major problems that the world is facing because of the lack of its treatment. The governments are doing everything to prevent its transmission. STD Testing Centers can be found at different places where free medical examination is done. Even those who are not suffering from AIDS are advised to go for the tests to help in, if any, determination.
This is another disease that is consuming a lot of lives all over the world. There is a spontaneous increase in the number of White blood cells although their number also increases in case of diseases like Malaria. Proper medical examination differentiates the too. The number of blood platelets also decreases in case on leukemia. Lower plate lets count points the “bleeding disease” as well.
Gout is the disease of joints and involves high stiffness and pain in the joints. Persistence may cause permanent damage to the joints. High uric acid in the blood suggests gout.
This is basically a blood disease and means less number of Red blood cells. Even the malformation of these cells causes Anemia called Sickle cell anemia.
Apart from these a lot of pathological diseases are found with help of blood tests. Sedimentation rate of the components also plays a crucial role in the detection of several diseases.
