Same as any surgery there are risks and complication associated with a breast augmentation surgery as well. Some of them are,

• Infection

• Bleeding

• Capsule contracture - building up of scar tissue around the implant which leads to firmness of the breast. If it occurs multiple time, the patient might have decide on removing the implant permanently

• Asymmetry – caused by the slipping of the implant.

• Interference with Mammography – If inserted under the muscle, the implant might block the visibility of certain areas while taking a mammogram.

• Calcification – if implant is inside for years, the patient might have calcification in the scar capsule around the implant.

• Deflation – Leak on the implant.

Regarding the life period of an implant, it is still not known accurately. An implant may or may not last for a patient’s life time depending on various factors like the manufacturing procedure, patient being prone to an accident or fall etc.

However there is still an increasing demand for cosmetic surgery!
