Typewriters – the ‘Antique Computers’

History saw a revolution in 1868 with the invention of a small mechanical device that printed alphabetical and numerical characters on plain white paper. Since their invention till today, this small mechanical equipment became an indispensable tool for both official and non-official purposes. This device became very famous and was widely used by professionals of all fields of work and many manufacturers started selling their own brands of this small piece of technology, giving it a unique look and distinguished feature. Known as typewriter, IBM introduced their brand long time back giving the people a new experience of typing.

Typewriter was user friendly since the time it was invented but the old models sincere efforts while putting in paper and also called for a lot of attention from users. Moreover, the weight of the equipment in olden days made it difficult in moving or shifting it. Ibm typewriter created a breakthrough with the introduction of the selectric model. Running on electricity, accurate in typing this device was known as the IBM Golf ball typewriter. Soon after, IBM introduced a modified version of the selectric model and named it as the selectric 2 and selectric 3 giving the people comfort of typing easily and fast.

What actually made selectric model the best among the users is that IBM installed an inbuilt feature of correction tapes that gave typing a new and different look altogether. The love for typewriter made jobs faster and easier and added an extra fun while using it. Also the newer versions of typewriters manufactured by IBM used type balls instead of type bars which made typing convenient and effortless. These typewriters had special features like faster typing, automatic error corrector, font changing facility and an adjustment facility for adjusting the line spacing required for typing special characters like for example superscript and subscript.
