Sony Introduces New Compact AIT5 Tape Solution for Economical and Long Term Data Protection

Even if you have deployed the most robust data security, there are chances of un-intentional corruption (human errors, accidental over-writings) and intentional data corruption (hackers, unauthorized access). That is why all types of organizations must preserve backups of their data at a secure off-site location.

To fulfill the backup storage requirements of mid-sized and small IT centers, Sony engineered the cutting-edge AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) format. Multiple AIT generations, unmatched reliability, superior compactness and low cost per GB are the strong attributes of AIT format that make it a quality decision for today’s business environment. AIT 5 is the latest generation, which dominates the entry-level server and SMB segment. Sony AIT-5 media tape preserves greater amount of native data (400GB). The sharply enhanced recording density and innovative AME-III (Advanced Metal Evaporated) formulation has enabled this small AIT5 cartridge to outperform other rival half-inch tapes like DLT and LTO-3 media tape.

Physical size of Sony AIT5 cartridge is almost 66-67% smaller than these tapes, but it can pack higher amount of information. LTO3 cartridge also features uncompressed storage capacity of 400 gigabytes. By compressing the data files, Sony AIT-5 tape’s capacity enters into the terabyte-class. It holds up to 1.04 TB data. On the other hand, LTO3 tape’s storage capacity doubles with compressed data, thus reaching 800 GB.

Sony AIT5 solution provides a perfect fit for your busy data centers and advanced computing systems with its internal and external drives. This makes drive installation more convenient for the I.T managers, whereas the “Ultra 160 SCSI LVD/SE” interface further improves the compatibility. Satisfaction of stringent data retention laws is mandatory for all types of companies. That is why Sony developed the SDX5-400W (W.O.R.M enabled) and the rewritable SDX5-400C AIT5 tapes. The AIT5 drives work seamlessly with both these tape models. WORM technology provides a smart solution to the common issues that can corrupt your data such as operating errors and un-authorized access. Therefore, Sony AIT5 solution delivers its customers the advantage of robust data security, compact backup system and superior business value.

Sony AIT 5 drives feature a blistering data streaming rate that reaches 24 MB per second (native mode). Therefore, the demands of branch office applications and various other leading operating systems can be met with this AIT-5 solution at an affordable price. Proven durability of AIT 5 tapes provides customers complete assurance regarding safe offsite transportation. Furthermore, it reduces the risk of potential damage in event of cartridge mishandlings. The base film’s useful life has been extended with the new media-coating process and ultra-fine magnetic particles. This has not only helped to extend the tape reel’s robustness but also stabilizes the tape movement. Therefore the noise level decreases significantly, and the drive can reliably perform its operations at a fast speed.

Sony AIT5 system performs excellently with a variety of branded servers including Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens and Hewlett-Packard HP. AIT-5 solution shortens the data processing time, searches data at a fast rate of 2700 MB/sec and secures the stored data with a robust WORM technology. So equip your growing business’s data center with this intelligent AIT5 system and enjoy the superior value for your tape investment.
