If you want to succeed in today’s competitive business world, then you must improve your response time and also safeguard the sensitive business data. These are not only essential for increasing the revenue, but for organizational sustainability as well. Small & medium organizations also need a backup storage system, because they are competing in E-business environment. Over the past two decades, the tape-based backup technology which has not lost its high market share is Digital data storage (DDS). The newest addition to this leading tape media format is the 7th generation DAT-320 tape format.

All of the best tape manufacturing companies Sony, TDK, Quantum, HP and Fuji are offering DDS products. In this article, we are going to discuss about the latest DAT-320 tape solution by IBM. 2012 is the IBM’s 60th year in tape industry, which provides customers complete assurance that their IBM-branded DDS tape products will deliver unparalleled performance over a longer time period.

IBM DAT320 tape system provides an energy-efficient, low cost and reliable data protection solution for a broader range of networks and SMBs. Native backup speed of IBM DAT320 drive reaches up to 12Mbps, which allows users to squeeze 43GB in an hour. To keep pace with this ultra-high backup speed, IBM developed the 46C1936, DAT-320 tape. IBM DAT320 drive uses the 46C1937, Cleaning cartridge. This cleaning cartridge also has been manufactured by IBM.

IBM has increased the recording density of this new media tape with the help of ME (Metal Evaporated) technology. As a result, the IBM DAT320 tape can hold a massive 160/320 GB data. Its ultra-fine base film lowers the tape friction and allows smooth data tracking, thus extending the head-life of IBM DAT-320 drive. Therefore, the drive will back up the huge data files at a faster rate, and will require fewer cleanings.

IBM has also included the backward media compatibility in its DAT 320 drives to help extend the customers’ investment in previous DDS6 tape system. Existing DDS customers won’t have to get rid of the previous generation tapes and they will have more quantity of tapes for data backups. Thanks to the multiple DDS generations, your organization-wide backup system can be easily standardized with a single tape format.

IBM DAT320 system’s ownership cost is far superior to other tape formats. The value-conscious customers won’t find a better tape solution for their medium/small organization. Preservation of tape cartridges at a remote site is necessary if you want to ensure 100% restore reliability in event of a disaster. IBM DDS tapes are the best option. The tapes cartridges have been intelligently designed to ensure greater protection against shocks. DDS format’s scalable roadmap and IBM’s superior product quality ensure that you gain the best value from this economical DAT320 tape system.
