Women Bring a Unique Set of Skills to Welding

Historically, welding has been considered a man’s profession, but times continue to change, and more and more women are entering the field. Women may tend to shy away from welding if they view themselves as physically less capable than men. Strength requirements in welding are a misconception. Though men generally have greater physical strength, employers understand that women in welding tend to have superior hand-eye coordination and a great eye for detail. The different skills that men and women bring to the field make for an excellent combination on the jobsite.

Welding Training

Welding schools for women offer hands-on, real world training under the guidance of highly trained, experienced welders. Students will spend one day per week in the classroom for instruction, and the remaining for days are spend out on the field and on the jobsite. The combination of in-class and on-site education prepares students for employment immediately upon graduation.

Students can complete their training in as little as seven months through a licensed, accredited welding school, with job placement upon graduation. Once a student has completed seven months of training, she may then choose to continue her education in welding to develop additional certifications. Financial aid is often available for students who qualify.

Careers in welding often offer competitive salaries, and because of the high demand for skilled welders, women can find job security in the field. The training and skills offered at welding schools for women can result in the best possible job opportunities. Employers also tend to look favorably at women as potential employees because they are often viewed as highly motivated, dependable, and artistic.

A career in welding can open a number of doors in a variety of fields. Traditionally, people associate welders in settings such as metal shops or construction sites, but welders are able to take their trade to countless industries, and more and more women in welding are finding success in metal art and craftwork, and even as the owners of highly successful businesses.

No matter what path you choose, women can find job security, success and happiness in a career as a professional welder.
